Revolutionise your flooring

Are you trying to decide on how to finish that floor of your latest home improvement project, or looking for a local professional screeding service to help facilitate a tricky delivery of liquid screed to a building site? With over 40 years experience in the industry, let Mr Pump take you through the benefits of liquid screed and why it is the preferred flooring solution over older, more traditional methods.

What are Liquid Screeds?

Liquid Screed is often mistaken for concrete which is commonly used in constructing roads and buildings. Concrete screed is often rough in appearance whereas a liquid screed is smooth and even, giving a beautiful surface finish. Liquid screed is made of much finer aggregates compared to its concrete counterpart which is what lends itself to being the floor screeding solution of choice for all domestic and industrial situations. Liquid screeds are promptly becoming the preferred method for screeding floors.

What are the benefits of Liquid Screeds?

The benefits of liquid screed far outweigh those of other floor surfaces. Liquid screed is easily pumped directly onto the top of the existing floor layer, it’s liquid consistency allows for a self levelling process to take place, creating a perfect, robust, durable surface for the final flooring layer, such as tiles or wooden flooring, to be adhered to. Surface cracking and shrinkage is kept to a minimum and there is no need to sand the final surface.

How fast does Liquid Screed dry?

As less product is required when using liquid screeds, the drying time is significantly reduced and gives an end to wasted days, waiting for the drying process to take place. This makes liquid screed perfect for large scale projects as well as small domestic uses. On average it takes 18-21 days to dry fully and should be left untouched for at least the first 24 hours. Liquid screed will tolerate light foot traffic after the first 24 hours.

Is Liquid Screed a cost-effective solution?

Other benefits to liquid screeds include it being less expansive than other flooring solutions which allows for thicker floor insulation to be installed which can ultimately lead to a reduction in heating costs.

As the product is delivered directly to the required area by the screeding services team at Mr Pump, there is no need for additional man-power and time costs. The quick drying properties of the liquid screeds also means that you save valuable time and can move forward with your project in a timely manner.

Is Liquid Screed durable?

A thin layer of liquid screed has been proven to be far stronger and more durable than a thicker depth of more traditional flooring screeds. A liquid screed suffers less shrinkage and cracking that other traditional methods making it the ideal screed solution.

What is the process for installing liquid screed?

The installation of liquid screed is painless and requires very little preparation. Before the liquid screed arrives, the floor should be cleared of any debris and the flooring insulation installed appropriately. Where appropriate, a membrane layer should be added to protect any pipework and prevent leakage of the floor screeding. We would also suggest edging strips are installed and doorways or steps should be sealed to prevent leakage.

The screed is delivered in a ready mixed state by truck, directly to your door or work site. The liquid screed is pumped directly from the truck to the required destination via a hose which makes it easy to deliver the product exactly to where it is needed with minimal mess and fuss.

What is the difference between Liquid screeds and other traditional screeds?

A traditional screed is usually laid by shovelling the screed mix on to the chosen area and then using a screeding bar to smooth out the surface to an acceptable standard. This can be time consuming, require more in terms of manual labour and can leave the screeding process open to error. With our liquid screeding services, the ready mixed screed is delivered directly to the site it is required, pumped in to the room and poured to create the smooth, durable surface it is known for. The self-levelling properties of the mix, means you no longer have to spend time levelling the mix with a screeding bar. The cost of the liquid screed is generally twice that of the more traditional options however choosing to use liquid screed can save you time and labour which make the overall cost on par with the traditional cheaper methods. The final surface also requires less preparation for the final flooring finish.

Can Liquid Screeds be used for underfloor heating?

There is no bigger advantage of liquid screeds than when combined with underfloor heating, as a lesser depth of liquid screed is required compared to other more traditional screeds. A thinner layer of material reduces the heat storage of the floor, creating a surface that rapidly responds to the requirements of the underfloor heating user. With liquid screed you will find the efficiency of your underfloor heating system increases significantly in comparison to other flooring solutions.
